At first Marathon Man invoked empathy once realizing the song is based on true events. On April 15th, 2023. The deafening blast of two homemade bombs shattered the air near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, chaos was spilling through the streets as smoke curled into the sky. In a hospital not far away, JFliz’s father opened his eyes, awakening from a coma as if the world had been waiting for this moment.
I couldn’t fathom the surreal contrast between devastation and the miracle of life. As a local, how does one fully embrace the gift of life while simultaneously mourning those from their own hometown who lost theirs? That’s just the beginning of the life-altering events in JFliz’s journey. But instead of using my keystrokes to tell his story, I’ll use them to urge you to listen — and hear the rest from him.
